The coffee tour at R Dalton in Antigua, Guatemala is really interesting and informative… especially if you love coffee.
Your tour begins in a greenhouse where the coffee sprouts begin.
Here they grow both arabica and robusta sprouts. When the coffee plants are big enough, the strong robusta roots are grafted onto the more flavorful aribica plants.
After you visit the greenhouse you travel by open vehicle to where the larger coffee plants are located. You look for coffee beans that are red and ripe. The tour guide lets you open them up and eat part of them.
Next you see where the coffee beans go after they are picked. They are washed and separated by quality. They are sorted by machine and by hand.
At the end of the tour you are invited to enjoy a cup of coffee grown, picked, and brewed right there at R Dalton. There is also a gift shop so you can bring some coffee home.
